We set my son up with Gmail and he has done two assignments already on Google Docs. For this exercise my son and I tried sharing documents back and forth. I also experimented with setting up a spreadsheet to use a a temporary calendar for scheduling branch book discussion sets. They seem especially useful as a repository of shared knowledge. The MD Overdrive Consortium is in the process of setting up a wiki for the minutes from our meetings, the selection rotation, and other information that people frequently seem to lose have to send e-mail to the group asking for it to be re-sent. A wiki might be a good way for staff to make subject need requests.Paula Lewishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890615431696054491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6083760047307258699.post-74945666571438284862007-11-26T11:08:00.000-08:002007-11-26T11:23:29.125-08:00Week #6, Thing #15No fun toys in this Thing; just reading and thinking.

I think the best things about Library 2.0 are breaking down barriers between libraries and their customers, and libraries being able to respond more quickly to customer needs and wants.

Unfortunately, just because the technology exists doesn't mean it's going to happen automatically. People (i.e. librarians) have to be willing to change the way they think about and do their work, which is much easier for some than for others.

Also, I think we need to be very cautious about letting anyone/everyone contribute to and/or manipulate library data. Any site that is open to contributions from all sources is open to unintentional errors as well as intentional abuse.Paula Lewishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890615431696054491noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6083760047307258699.post-70762624422574851072007-11-26T10:11:00.000-08:002007-11-26T10:12:34.873-08:00Week #6, Thing #14Claimed my blog on Technorati:

Paula Lewishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890615431696054491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6083760047307258699.post-43807202756975686492007-11-26T08:19:00.000-08:002007-11-26T08:25:20.126-08:00Week #6, Thing #13My del.icio.usPaula Lewishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890615431696054491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6083760047307258699.post-35512398049152317952007-11-26T06:50:00.000-08:002007-11-26T07:09:57.692-08:00Week #5, Thing #12I create a Rollyo search engine for my favorite exercise video sites:

<fieldset id='searchboxset' style='margin: 0 0 10px 0 !important; padding: 4px 0 0 0 !important; height: 62px; width: 160px; border: none;'>
Select Search Engine...Fitness videosSearch The Web

Powered by Rollyo

</fieldset>
Paula Lewishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890615431696054491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6083760047307258699.post-50212391690447536632007-11-23T12:36:00.001-08:002007-11-26T09:16:18.679-08:00Week #5, Thing #11Library Thing: if I had A LOT more time, I could spent it there.

You can see some of my favorite books in the sidebar.Paula Lewishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890615431696054491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6083760047307258699.post-56844363780694205752007-11-23T11:57:00.001-08:002007-11-26T09:35:09.538-08:00Week #5, Thing #10I used Automotivator to create this poster:

I used ImageChef to make this picture of my kitty:

Paula Lewishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890615431696054491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6083760047307258699.post-56272707960002285662007-11-23T10:32:00.000-08:002007-11-23T10:38:56.163-08:00Week #4, Thing #9Spent a lot of time poking around various Library related blogs mostly through MERLIN, but I also checked out Bloglines Search tool and some others.
